MasterCard PayPass™ contactless payment technology introduced at Overwaitea Food Group stores
TORONTO--The Overwaitea Food Group (OFG) agreed with MasterCard to roll out MasterCard's PayPass™ contactless payment technology at all OFG grocery stores, including Save-On-Foods, PriceSmart Foods, Overwaitea Foods, Cooper's Foods and Urban Fare.
"We've been innovating and providing exceptional customer service for nearly a century," says OFG spokesperson Julie Dickson Olmstead. "MasterCard PayPass is a great example of an innovation that adds value by saving customers time."
Customers can simply tap their PayPass-enabled MasterCard credit card or device (such as a mobile phone enhanced with a PayPass payment tag) on a specially equipped payment terminal at check-out and the transaction is confirmed within seconds.
Customers who use a PayPass-enabled MasterCard credit card or device enjoy the same protections from fraud as they would with conventional MasterCard payments. PayPass is supported by robust, multi-level security protections including the encryption of PayPass radio frequency transaction transmissions and the multiple security protections of the MasterCard payment system.
"With more than 21 million PayPass-enabled MasterCard cards and close to 17,000 PayPass-accepting merchant locations in Canada, more and more consumers and merchants alike are seeing an increase in speed and convenience at check-out," said David E. Orzel, Head of Market Development, MasterCard Canada. "This agreement with OFG marks a fantastic partnership opportunity for both parties."
