Indigo brings MasterCard's PayPass technology to all stores
TORONTO -- Indigo Books & Music Inc, Canada's largest book retailer, announced today a partnership with MasterCard Canada to roll out the acceptance of MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology to all store locations across the country.
The 249 book stores, including 96 superstores under the banners Indigo, Chapters and the World's Biggest Bookstore, and 151 small format stores under the banners Coles, Indigo, IndigoSpirit, SmithBooks and The Book Company, have installed more than 1,000 PayPass point-of-sale payment terminals to-date.
"Our goal is to enrich the lives of our customers through the service we offer and our unparalleled assortment of books, toys, gifts and lifestyle products," said Kay Brekken, Chief Financial Officer at Indigo Books & Music Inc. "This new partnership with MasterCard will allow our customers to enjoy greater convenience when making their in-store purchases."
Consumers with a PayPass-enabled MasterCard credit card or mobile phone can quickly and securely pay for their purchases with a simple tap of their card or phone on a PayPass point-of-sale payment terminal. The transaction is confirmed within seconds and the consumer never lets go of their card or phone.
"MasterCard PayPass enhances customer convenience and a reduction in wait time at the checkout, and increases the security of the transaction as the card or phone never leaves the customer's hand," said David E. Orzel, Head of Market Development, MasterCard Canada. "This partnership with Indigo provides their customers with the benefits of this new technology and an improved shopping experience."
